I think Americans have a tendency to bounce back better and stronger. The Great Depression led to the new deal and a revitalized sense of purpose. America entered the 1980s a broke, struggling nation but by the end of that decade had essentially won the Cold War and ushered in a new era of pax Americana lasting until 2008. While China might now be the superpower from here on out, America is a nation of innovation and wild optimism. America may very well pioneer the vaccine that will end this virus once and for all
